Newfound Energies began operating in 2001 under the name of Labrador Coastal equipment Ltd, the parent company.

 The company is owned and operated by Gerry and Chris Skinner (Father and Son Team).

 

Gerry Skinner is an independent businessman who owned and operated several businesses in Newfoundland & Labrador for 31 years prior to his retirement in 2000. In 2001 during the first month of his retirement he was approached by a friend who thought Gerry’s distribution background would help him source out some solar power products to offset the gas generator power supply at his cabin. Gerry began to search out this idea for his friend. This resulted in a trip to Toronto where an alternative energy show was coming up in a few weeks. He realized that this industry may be an opportunity to help his friend and find out more about the industry. Gerry agreed to represent a Canadian company and started by exhibiting at the Home Show in St. John’s the same month. That’s how this new and exciting industry started for Gerry and Newfound Energies and he hasn’t looked back since. Today, Gerry keeps himself busy 7 days a week communicating with potential clients, making presentations, dealing with administrative duties and passing on his experience in this financially sustainable and environmentally friendly renewable energy industry.

 

Chris Skinner has a short technical background due to some courses pursued at the college level.  With Gerry’s newfound passion, Chris soon followed in his footsteps.  With a love for travel and meeting people, he handles most of the site assessment, installation and maintenance calls.

Between Chris and Gerry, there is nearly 20 years of renewable energy experience. 

 

Newfound Energies sells, designs and installs wind and solar energy systems for off grid locations or on grid utility power locations and rightfully have earned the title of “Newfoundland and Labrador’s Renewable Energy Specialists”
